Department of Physics
The Department of Physics was established in the year 1990, offering Physics as ancillary subject for other science major students and upgraded as a major Department from the year 2003. The Physics lab is equipped with advanced equipments. The Department has produced two rank holders at university level in the year 2007 and 2009. The Department has a good library.
The department takes special interest in teaching medical instrumentation, house hold electrical appliances, mobile communication and house wiring which are much useful for self employment. The department took special interest in teaching ideas, concept and Physics laws which are useful to get through in the competitive examinations for appointments and to get admission for higher studies.
ASTRO is a unique programme conducted in our department which is organised conducted and participated by our department students by taking seminars on current topics, conducting science quiz and having a good academic discussion and current topics in the presence of faculty members which is not useful to enhance their subject skill but to enrich their communicative skills also. Seminars, guest lectures are frequently conducted inviting subject experts from Higher Academic centres like IIT,ISRO,IIAP,CECRI etc., It encourage students to appear in a competitive examination and UGC , NET /SET Examinations.
Every year February 28, our department celebrating “ National Science day” and we are conducting model display competition for our department students.
The students are also encouraged to participate in the seminars and competitions conducted by other colleges in and around Madurai. The department also take care of the students by offering them career guidance and counselling. At present we have 4 staffs and 105 students in physics department.
Apart from studies our students are participating university level games got winners and runners shield by participating fine arts competitions inside the college and servicing the public through NSS and RRC.
